There's nothing like pregnancy to make you suddenly start trying to decode labels on your beauty products. But when you're beyond exhausted and your skin is freaking out in crazy, new ways, figuring out what's safe and effective can be overwhelming. Here's a simple place to start: These 16 skin, hair, and nail products are some of our favorites for use during pregnancy—and anytime, really. Not only do they give gorgeous results, they're free of any iffy ingredients that might keep you up at night. If only we could promise as much once the baby arrives.

SEE MORE Cleanser: Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser, $32, indielee.com Indie Lee launched her natural beauty brand after overcoming a brain tumor and seeking new ways to minimize her exposure to toxins. But her skin care products have appeal beyond their eco-friendly origins. This ultra-gentle daily antioxidant cleanser leaves skin grime-free and supple and has a delightful, subtle strawberry scent.

Face Serum: Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex, $120, tataharperskincare.com Like a magic potion for pregnancy's wildly unpredictable skin, this botanical "multivitamin" doesn't irritate, and it hydrates without causing greasiness or breakouts. Layer it under your moisturizer if your skin is very dry, or use it alone as a smoothing base for makeup and overall radiance booster. Another gem to check out from this luxury organic brand: the Restorative Eye Crème ($90, tataharperskincare.com).

Moisturizer: Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream, $39, juicebeauty.com Few BB and CC creams manage to score a mere one on the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep toxicity scale like this formula does. One reason: Most multitasking tinted moisturizers include chemical or "nano" sunscreen ingredients. This one achieves its SPF 30 by using non-nano zinc oxide (which means no worries about it penetrating your skin and entering your bloodstream). And unlike some other natural tinted moisturizers, it looks totally natural too; choose from five flattering complexion-warming shades.

Hydrating Mist: Board and Batten Farm to Skin Calming Lift, $30, farmtoskin.com A refreshing pick-me-up for use throughout the day, this moisture-boosting spritz contains aloe to soothe and cool, and it has a light rosewater scent. Stash it in your desk to pre-empt dullness and dryness, especially during winter.

Nail Polish Remover: Priti NYC Soy Nail Polish Remover Wipes, $10, pritinyc.com There's nothing like some acetone soaking into your cuticles to make you feel your first pangs of mommy guilt. These biodegradable wipes make the job of removing polish much less toxic-smelling yet surprisingly effortless. Easy single-use packets arrive packaged in a cute muslin satchel—so simple to toss into your handbag (and future diaper bag) for emergency chipped-paint removal.

Nail Color: Côte Five-Free Nail Polish, $16, coteshop.myshopify.com We love this California-based nail brand for its high-performing polishes that aren't just "five-free" (i.e., they don't contain formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, camphor, and formaldehyde resin) but are also made in America, vegan, and cruelty-free. The 109-color collection includes everything from sophisticated jewel tones to beautiful beach-chic neutrals.

Face Wipes: Mama Mio Gorgeous Glow Balancing Facial Swipes, $16, mioskincare.com These gentle wipes are a godsend on nights when you're too tired to do a proper wash (and, oh, there are many of those nights). Tea tree extract helps combat the pimple problem and oil overload, but skin never feels stripped or tight.

Sunscreen: Alba Botanica Very Emollient Fragrance-Free Mineral Sunscreen, $12, albabotanica.com This mineral formula scored a two on the Skin Deep toxicity scale, making it one of the safer sunscreens on the market. The thick formula does take some effort to rub in, but once applied, it lasts for hours and resists water.

Redness Fix: VMV Hypoallergenics Red Better Flare-Up Balm, $50, vmvhypoallergenics.com A gentler alternative to steroid creams (like hydrocortisone), this will become your go-to fix for all kinds of upset-skin issues: eczema, rosacea, inflamed pimples, etc. Bonus: It's gentle enough to use for your future baby's skin woes. Check out this brand's hypoallergenic facial moisturizers for super-sensitive skin too.

Body Wash: Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Liquid Soap, $9, drbronner.com This coconut-oil-based cleanser has been around for decades, but it still might be the most perfect pick for use during pregnancy. Although there are scented versions, the unscented is ideal if you find yourself irked by strong scents right now. It also contains twice the amount of olive oil as the scented versions, making it even more of a relief for dry skin. And despite being certified organic and having a refreshingly short ingredients list, this soap will lather just as well as your favorite body wash. If you decide to use it on your baby too, just note that it's not tear-free. (Our top pick for tots: California Baby Super Sensitive Shampoo and Body Wash, $12, californiababy.com.)

Body Lotion: Sibu Beauty Sea Buckthorn Body Cream, $15, drugstore.com Finally, a body cream you can slather all over without worrying about what exactly is sinking into your skin. Not only is this one's ingredients list practically worry-free, its signature sea buckthorn oil—along with shea butter and meadowfoam—gets your skin totally plump and glowing. It's also great for spot-targeting stubborn rough zones before bed.

Body Scrub: Ren Guérande Salt Exfoliating Body Balm, $37, renskincare.com Ren's mission: to use only 100-percent plant- and mineral-derived active ingredients and no synthetics. But this scrub's one of the best we've tried, natural or otherwise. While so many others immediately dissolve or drip away, this rich cream clings to skin so you can take your sweet time massaging it in. (You can also apply it to dry skin preshower, if you prefer.) There's just enough graininess to smooth sensitive skin without irritation. Note that this giant jar could probably last through all three trimesters, unless you get even more addicted than we are.

Stretch-Mark Salve: Nine Naturals Vanilla and Geranium Regenerative Belly Butter, $35, ninenaturals.com Nine Naturals caters to pregnant women, so it's no surprise that its products for keeping stretched-taut belly skin moisturized and unstressed are some of the best we've tried. This cream is completely nongreasy, but it nixes any hint of itch. The only downside? It feels and smells like delicious vanilla frosting, which may leave you fighting serious cupcake cravings.

Shampoo: John Masters Organics Bare Unscented Shampoo, $14.50, johnmasters.com It's amazing how hard it is to find something so simple: a sulfate-free shampoo that doesn't contain synthetic fragrances but still gets hair clean and shiny. The Bare collection from this organic brand is refreshingly free of scent and won't fade your hair color (key if you prefer to delay your next dye job until the baby's born). Got dandruff? Try the Zinc and Sage Shampoo With Conditioner ($20, johnmasters.com) for a fix that's not laden with chemicals.

Conditioner: Rahua Conditioner, $34, rahua.com This organic hair and skin care brand is based around a restorative oil from the Amazon rain forest called rahua (pronounced ra-wa). The conditioner leaves hair smooth yet bouncy, plus it's actually a two-in-one, moonlighting as a medium-hold styling cream—and what tired, pregnant lady doesn't appreciate a little multitasking action?

Courtesy of Brand

Deodorant: Dr. Hauschka Rose Deodorant, $23, dermstore.com It's important to note that this product is not an antiperspirant. It is, however, a natural aluminum-free option that does the job of nixing odor thoroughly and oh so elegantly (yes, we are calling a natural deodorant elegant!). It dries quickly, feels soft, and won't irritate even the testiest underarm skin. True, it's pricier than your average stick, but it lasts a long time, and the top-quality fragrance oils keep you smelling like, well, roses, all day.

Acne Treatment: Mario Badescu Drying Cream, $17, mariobadescu.com If you're avoiding salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide while you're pregnant, good luck buying a blemish cream, especially one that actually works. That's why this one is a hidden gem; it relies on colloidal sulfur to dry up even your most throbbing, hormonal pimples. The scent isn't pretty, but it works so well you won't care.
